Many apartment owners require access to more than one TV. Now it’s possible to enjoy hassle free connection to existing SAT cabling.
With the new SCR Multiswitch from TRIAX each apartment only needs one cable installed no matter who the broadcaster is. The same cabling can be connected with three set-top boxes, sufficient for most homes.
What is SMATV?
SMATV stands for Satellite Master Antenna Television, and refers to a system that uses multiple satellite and broadcast signals to create a single integrated cable signal for distribution to a cabling network. In other words, with a SMATV system you can become your own in-house cable company.
How does it Work?
We install a satellite dish and TV antennae to receive programming from satellite providers and local broadcast networks. These antennae feed into several racks of electronic equipment which tunes in the channels you choose for your cable lineup, and combines them into a single cable signal. This feed can also include local sources such as in-house channels such as a campus TV station, information and billboard channels.
The benefit is invisible
The smart part of the setup is that the tenant does not need any knowledge of the type of set-top box being used, they just need to connect. The multiswitch automatically detects the set- top box and provides the signal needed. If the broadcast provider offers an SCR set-top box, the tenant can use on up to three TVs at the same time.
The automatic detection also means the owner of the apartment building doesn’t have to call an installer to switch between the different operators. The multiswitch automatically adapts to whatever set- top box is connected. As all homes in the apartment building use the same dish (through the SCR Multiswitch) the appearance of the building is also improved.
Freedom to operate
With this new technology each home can decide for itself what to see and where to see it. As long as the there is a dish on the roof that receives the satellite signal all combinations are possible.
“Today most people have more than one TV. Our new SCR Multiswitch makes the installation in apartment buildings much easier,” says CEO Claus Omann, TRIAX. “We believe people want the freedom to choose between different broadcasters and the operators can see the benefit in delivering more than one set top box per household. Our new solution satisfies both needs”.
The SCR Multi switch will be available from June 2014 in six variants depending on the number of homes and satellites to be connected.
